Seattle German Cockroach Exterminator
What Does a German Cockroach Look Like?
Ranging in length from 1/2 to 5/8 inches, these tan to light brown colored insects are easily identified by the two dark brown stripes located on their backs. Their oval-shaped, winged bodies are supported by their six spiny legs. While they do have wings, German cockroaches rarely fly (thankfully). However, they are extremely fast on their feet and able to squeeze into spaces as small as 3/16 inch.
They are incredibly productive breeders since German cockroach eggs can be laid up to six times per year. Their quick reproduction can very quickly lead to a substantial infestation if not dealt with immediately.
German cockroaches can carry a myriad of diseases and spread illness, including Salmonella. There are also concerns of allergens with infestations of these insects. They contaminate food with their saliva and feces. And while it is a rare occurrence to see evidence of German cockroach bites, it is a possibility.
How to Prevent German Cockroach Infestations
German cockroaches tend to rely on humans for survival as our buildings are sources of warmth and food. As a result, these critters are especially fond of residential and commercial kitchens. They will occasionally make their way into bathrooms as well, as they enjoy warm and moist environments.
Proper sanitation is the best preventative measure for keeping these unwanted guests out of your home. These pests, however, are resourceful travelers. They have been known to hitch rides in grocery bags and cardboard boxes.
