aeration Aeration

We can aerate lawns with a machine that pulls small soil plugs out. The most common reason for having your lawn aerated is to reduce soil compaction. Soil compaction occurs in areas of your lawn that get heavy use, such as kids playing, or where foot traffic is high. Compaction significantly reduces the amount of water and nutrients the soil can absorb, and over time these areas of your lawn may turn brown or die.

Another problem that aerations can help solve is hydrophobic areas. Hydrophobic areas occur when the lawn is allowed to dry out and the soil becomes very hard and water resistant. Once a lawn is hydrophobic water will just run off, and it is very hard to re-wet. The best way to avoid this problem is to water regularly through the spring and summer.
Aerations, if done once in the spring and again in the fall can also eliminate the need to de-thatch which is very destructive to your lawn.
